Every California LLC and corporation must name an agent for service of process — a person or company with a physical street address in California, available during business hours to accept lawsuits, subpoenas, and Secretary of State notices.
You can name yourself, but your address goes on the public record, and you have to be physically present to be served. Most people don’t want a process server at their front door.
